—Swans, “Love Will Tear Us Apart (cover),” Love Will Tear Us Apart EP (1988)
In later years Michael Gira said he regretted ever doing this cover, which ended up being a modest hit on college radio and helped Swans land a major label deal after years of toiling in noise-rock obscurity. I can’t decide if it’s wonderful or horrible. The video, however, is everything one could possibly ask of ’80s low-budget greenscreenmanship.
